A First Time Event
Practitioners of the Middendorf Breath Work, Breathexperience, will present the art of being moved by breath at the U.C. Berkeley Art Museum during Bruce Nauman’s art exhibit.
The dates are April 12 6-7 p.m., April 13 4-5 p.m. and April 14, 4-5 p.m., 2007.
This work has been renowned for some time for its beneficial healing effects, but this is the first time it has been recognized as an art.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS FOR MFT'S AND LCSW'S
Breathexperience™ in Relationship, is a unique and groundbreaking approach in developing a healthy and balanced connection to yourself and others. The Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience in Berkeley, as well as its branches in Marin/Sonoma and on the Peninsula, are now offering a special program, Breathexperience in Relationship, designed for Marriage and Family Therapists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers seeking continuing education credits.
This program uses new developments based on the principles of the Experience of Breath, to help therapists and counselors learn by personal experience how to connect to one’s Self and communicate, clarify, resolve conflicts, deepen and transform partnership and relationships. Participants will be able to:
• Identify the sensation of breath movement in the body as the reference and source for integrating conflicts, and clarifying, restoring, and transforming relationships.
• Increase their knowledge and understanding of somatic intelligence through Breath Experience.
• Understand the importance of the authentic breath rhythm as an indicator of all conscious and unconscious events.
• Use Breathexperience as a support in their professional and personal lives

These workshops meet the qualifications for credit by the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Each hour of attendance equals one unit of credit, contingent upon completion of each day’s workshop, or series of workshops: students earn 5 credits for each one-day workshop, 25 credits for a 5 day training or 50 credits for a 10 day training.

Associated Body and Massage Professionals (ABMP) has published an article, “Breath Therapy for Low Back Pain,” by Shirley Vanderbilt, in the December 2006/January 2007 issue of Massage and Bodywork, a Magazine Nurturing Body, Mind, & Spirit. This article is based on the work and results of an unprecedented research study by Wolf E. Mehling, MD, at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Osher Integrative Medicine Clinic, which showed the beneficial effects of Breath Therapy on patients with chronic low-back pain.
TThe “Breath Therapy” used in the study was the Middendorf Breathexperience™. Practitioners were four members of the teaching/training team of the Middendorf Institute for Breathexperience™ : Juerg Roffler, Director, and Margot Biestman, Gryta Coates, and Faith Hornbacher.

KCAL (a CBS affiliate in Los Angeles) has also produced a news program which focused on breathexperience as an alternative to alleviate chronic low back pain, based on a research study at Osher Integrative Medicine Clinic, UCSF, San Francisco, by Wolf E. Mehling, MD, associate clinical professor. This program was aired nation-wide.
